How your GWA is computed, what it takes to be a scholar, and how Latin Honors work at UP.
GWA = ∑(Grade × Units) / ∑(Units). Each grade is multiplied by its course units, the products are summed, then divided by the total units. Qualitative grades (P, F, S, U), HK/PE, NSTP and Residency are not included.
A semestral GWA of 1.45 or better qualifies for University Scholar, and 1.75 or better for College Scholar. Honor Roll is 2.00 or better. You must have carried the regular load (normally 15 units) or secured an underload permit.
Yes. The regular load is 15 units (12 for AY 2020-2021 and 2021-2022). Midyear terms have no minimum. If you were underloaded without an underload permit, you are not eligible for scholar standing that term or for Latin Honors.

Semestral GWA covers a single term and determines University Scholar, College Scholar and Honor Roll standing. Cumulative GWA (CWAG) covers all your academic courses across terms and determines Latin Honors at graduation.
Summa Cum Laude: 1.0000 to 1.2000. Magna Cum Laude: 1.2001 to 1.4500. Cum Laude: 1.4501 to 1.7500. An unpermitted underloaded semester disqualifies you from Latin Honors regardless of your GWA.
Courses 199, 299 and 399 are not counted in the GWA. For SP/Thesis courses (190, 200, 300, 400), a passing S grade reflects in the entire units of the course, so 3 units of S plus 3 units of 1.75 counts as 6 units of 1.75.
